UA Little Rock to Host ‘Small Works on Paper’ Traveling Exhibition
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Art Gallery will host the traveling exhibition, “Small Works on Paper,” from Aug. 22 to Sept. 22.
“Small Works on Paper” is a juried visual art exhibition that showcases two-dimensional artwork no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches. The 2023 exhibition features 27 artists from across Arkansas and will tour to nine venues statewide. Forty artworks will be on display during the year-long tour.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be on display in the Ann Maners and Alex Pappas Gallery in the Windgate Center of Art and Design. A reception for the exhibition will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Windgate Center.
The exhibition includes work from the following artists: Tony Baker, Judith Beale, Dustyn Bork, Maria Botti Villegas, Barbara Cade, Gary Cawood, Terra Fondriest, Diane Harper, Neal Harrington, Carol Hart, Leigh Jacobs, Ekaterina Kouznetsova, Rhaelene Lowther, Mandy Mooneyham, Jennifer O’Brien, Rashawn Penister, David Rackley, Tom Richard, Sabine Schmidt, Suzannah Schreckhise, Trevor Segraves, Dominique Simmons, Gary Simmons, Adrienne Thompson, Marcus Vasquez, Jan Waldon, and Anna Zusman.
The exhibition spotlights Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery designed to promote and market Arkansas art. Every year, an out-of-state juror selects works for Small Works on Paper from submissions by registry members.
The 2023 entries were juried by Margaret LeJeune, associate professor of photography at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. LeJeune reviewed approximately 275 submitted artworks to select the 40 pieces that are part of the Small Works on Paper exhibition. She also selected five works to receive purchase awards, which are cash prizes equivalent to the value of the artworks. Purchase award pieces become part of the Small Works on Paper permanent collection.
The UA Little Rock Art Galleries in the Windgate Center are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
