Re: DOGGONE FINES: Bylaw enforcement busts PSAC for hot dog stand, online edition, April 27

Alex Silas is apparently angry. PSAC’s regional executive vice-president thinks that ticketing union members for bylaw infractions is “unwarranted and unfair.” And the police presence during the strike, he said last week, was “very intimidating … They’re definitely not being as friendly as they were to the convoy protesters.”

Does Mr. Silas know how tone-deaf he sounded to the millions of Canadians whose very livelihoods were threatened by the federal government’s COVID policies, and were not receiving their regular salaries or strike pay during their “down time”?

Nope, he obviously doesn’t.

AL WILLEY EDMONTON

(Never stand between activists and their barbecues. )

DON’T CHANGE GARBAGE PICKUP

Here we go again, with the city trying to drum up more ways to increase revenue for its out of control spending (by reportedly considering bag tags for garbage collection). The excuse for trash tags is to make more people recycle. We all know what the outcome of this would be; people will throw trash in country ditches or drop trash at somebody else’s curb. It would turn into a horror show and a mess.

Do us all a favour and leave the garbage pickup as is. Garbage pickup is garbage pickup. Do what you brainstormers should have done years ago and incinerate the garbage. Problem solved!

DON PUGLIESE KANATA

(It’s certainly a burning issue.)

PUNISHING CANADIANS

The PM claims to be so set on meeting our climate targets by punishing Canadians in so many different ways, claiming the sacrifice is worth it to save the world, yet because people add to climate change the PM’s policy of bringing in so many migrants almost guarantees Canada will never achieve its goals, yet he continues to punish Canadians.

PETE MCLELLAN BROCKVILLE

(You think we’d achieve our goals if we didn’t welcome immigrants? )

DO THE RIGHT THING

Dear prime minister, what is the tipping point for Canada and NATO to enact an overt military response to the war crimes being committed daily in Ukraine? How many casualties are acceptable? Is history not an exemplary teacher on when and how to act when aggressions around the world are taken against innocent lives? Canada needs to stay on the right side of history. The right thing to do is not always the easiest thing, but it is always the right thing to do.

BARRY ARMSTRONG OTTAWA

(Ah, if only we didn’t have such an under-resourced military … )
